Career Prep/Service Learning Student Writing: One Quality
Students were given the opportunity to reflect on their values by answering the following question: If you had to give every human being one quality, what would it be and why? Here are some of their responses.

If I had to give every human being one quality it would be trust. Why? Trust is given, and it is a valuable thing when it comes to trust. If a person trusts you with stuff, then it's better for you and that person. It also builds character and builds a relationship just by giving trust to that person.

If I had to give every human being one quality it would be the quality of love. I think that loving different people and each other is a very important quality to have is because it brings everyone together and does a lot in healing wounds that have to be healed. Being loving and compassionate towards someone can be reflected and brought back on you which is better in the end for both people. Loving one another also helps fight evil. Fighting evil and bad things with goodness can have a dramatic effect on effect on the world.

Courage is one human quality I would give to every human being because so many situations could have turned out differently if the person had the courage to step out of their comfort zone. Engaging in small acts can eventually lead you down the road toward more global acts of courage. Courage can go from asking a girl on a date to standing up against racism or prejudice. Little acts of courage can affect society in a positive way.

-If I had to give every human being one quality, it would be love. I think love can cover anything. Love is a type of quality that includes and takes care of the rest of the good qualities in human beings. Love should be the center of the heart, which governs humans’ behaviors, attitudes, actions, decisions, and even thoughts. If every human being had the quality of love, the earth would be a much happier place. Love would make people treat others with love and receive love in return. Loving and being loved in the best feeling and emotion humans are capable of.
-If I would give every human being one quality, it would be kindness. Kindness is something that is taken not seriously sometimes. People say unkind stuff and most of them don't even regret it later. How many suicides is it going to take for people to realize the stuff they say hurts? All people need to be kind towards others even if they don't like someone. Kindness is a quality that must be inside of every human being. Some people are scared for life just because someone said something unkind a year ago. Words do hurt and we need to be kind so we don't hurt others.
-The one quality that I would give to everyone is “loving”. It is based of my religious perspective. Jesus calls us to love one another like ourselves. People love themselves and they will be able to show that love towards other people. When you have love, you will be able to forgive, to give, to be happy, etc.
-For me the most important quality is humanity. We need to understand people and understand each other Being a good human being defines you everywhere. Humanity means a lot for our lives. It means caring for and helping others whenever and wherever possible, and helping others at times when they need that help the most. It means forgetting our selfish interests at times when others need our help and extending unconditional love to each and every living being on Earth. We need to understand the importance of this quality.
