The Important Adults in a Child's Life
Often adults talk about how children nowadays have no respect and should know better. But how are children supposed to know about respect? How will children treat people if no one teaches them?
If no one sits down with children and explains to them that what they are doing is wrong, they will continue down the path they are already on. Children need guidance. Guidance helps them know that being disrespectful, immature, and acting out is not going to get them through life. Rules and guidelines need to be set to help teach children. Parents, teachers, adults in general need to teach this.
Parents are the most responsible for teaching children. There are times, though, that children don’t listen to their parents. When this happens, what the parents are trying to teach doesn’t get through to the children. Sometimes the parents may still keep trying, but a child chooses to be disobedient again and again. This can eventually lead to the parents giving up. The child may then start getting in trouble, and if that behavior continues, the child can one day end up in jail.
When the efforts parents are trying don’t work, a teacher can sometimes step in and help. Teachers can sit the students down to talk to them. It’s possible the teacher can find out what’s going on and if there is a problem at home. Some students are more comfortable talking to teachers about problems than they are talking to their own parents.
In order to teach children about appropriate behavior, adults may need to get together and cooperate to help the child. Talking with each other and finding out more information can help the child get back on the right track. Either way, it’s important the adults don’t give up on the child because one day, he or she will change their behavior. Just the fact the adults don’t give up on the child can be enough for someone to want to change.
